Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must achieve a passing score, 70% or better, on the N-POST (National Police Officer Selection Test). See links below for testing locations and a study guide. Do not wait until the last minute to take this test. Take the test now! It can take up to 3 weeks or more to receive NPOST results. If you take the test by September 1st you should be okay.  You may attach a copy of your N-POST scores to this application. You can also search Utah NPOST study guides.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age by the date of hire 
  • Must be a resident of the State of Utah at the time of hire 
  • Must possess a valid Utah Driver’s license at time of hire 
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) 
  • Must not have any disqualifying criminal history. Details can be found on Utah Department of Public Safety’s website. 
  • Must be free of any physical, emotional, or mental condition that might adversely affect the performance of the applicant's duties as a peace officer.
  • Must complete an Online Application: 
  • Must pass the PT Test and Entry Interview (TBD)
    • PT Test requirements: (Pass/Fail)
      • Vertical Jump = 14.5 inches 
      • One Minute Sit-Ups = 23
      • Push-Up = 14 
      • 1.5 Mile Run = Under 16 minutes and 11 seconds.
    • Only those who pass the PT test will be scheduled for an Interview.  
  • If you pass the NPOST, the PT test and Entry Interviews will continue through our hiring process.

Position Description:

**This position will be open indefinitely.**

This application Requisition is for both Protective Services and Corrections. This requisition is for NEW HIRES only, Lateral hires (Those without BCO and SFO certifications & one (1) year of experience. If you have one (1) year experience and your certifications there is another requisition.

As a Deputy you will learn valuable communication skills essential for assisting the public and dealing with our ever changing prisoner population.

This position is both challenging and rewarding. You will be responsible for providing law enforcement duties outside and tactical responses inside. You will be involved in housing prisoners, processing new arrests, responding to emergency situations, working with the mentally ill population, and participating in the offender program.

Protective Services Deputy I $16.80 

Corrections Deputy II $18.23
